Peggy's Cove Lighthouse

Peggy's Cove Lighthouse

C$425.00Price

The lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove has a rich history dating back to its original construction in 1868 and is a significant landmark in Nova Scotia.  Construction of the first lighthouse  was completed in 1868, it was a wooden structure with a beacon on the roof.  A lighthouse keeper was employed to light a kerosene oil lamp to create a red beacon marking the entrance to St. Margarets Bay.

The village of Peggy’s Cove was established at about the same time, with land granted to families who had been fishing the nearby waters since the early 1800’s.

The current octagonal shaped lighthouse was constructed in 1941 using reinforced concrete.  It stands 15 meters or 49 feet tall.  The lighthouse was automated in 1958 and over the years the light colour changed from red to white and then green.  In 2007, the colour was changed to a solid red to conform with international standards.

The lighthouse is one of the most photographed lighthouses in Canada, and is a major Canadian tourist attraction. It draws visitors from around the world..

If you’re planning a trip to the East Coast, this is a “must-see” destination.

This painting was created in a 11 x 14 inch size and is matted and framed to fit in a 18 x 22 inch frame.  It is READY TO HANG.
