Bayfield Brewing Company

C$425.00Price

My newest watercolour and ink painting features the Bayfield Brewing Company, located at 14 Main Street North in the picturesque town of Bayfield, Ontario.  This building has a rich history dating back to 1854 when it was constructed.  The Bayfield Brewing Company was opened at this location in the Spring of 2019, and offers a comfortable spot for a cool drink and a bite to eat.

Bayfield has a reputation as a charming destination for visitors and residents alike. Located on the shores of Lake Huron, Bayfield is part of the Municipality of Bluewater in Huron County. Established in 1832, Bayfield was named after Admiral Henry Wolsey Bayfield, a British Royal Navy surveyor who charted much of the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River in the early 19th century.  The village was originally envisioned as a shipping and port town due to its proximity to Lake Huron, a critical transportation and trade route during the 19th century.

Early settlers were primarily Scottish and English immigrants who established agriculture, milling, and fishing industries.  The construction of the Huron Road (connecting Guelph to Goderich) in the 1830s facilitated the movement of goods and settlers to the area, boosting Bayfield's growth.  By the early 20th century, the village transitioned from being an industrial hub to a quieter community focused on tourism and recreation. Its scenic beauty and location along Lake Huron made it a favorite destination for visitors seeking beaches and relaxation.

Today, Bayfield is known for its thriving arts community, boutique shops, fine dining, and events such as the annual Bayfield Fair and Sail & Canvas Festival.  The village has embraced its historical roots, and many organizations, including the Bayfield Historical Society, work to preserve and celebrate its legacy.

This painting was created in a 11 x 14 inch size, and is matted and framed to a 19 x 22 inch size that is ready to hang.
